So, everyone (or most) know that I have my current affliction for the Triumph triple sport bike. My old 675 was a master piece
in handling, andmy newer 675R is the same thing cranked to 12.
which le
ads me to this:the 2020 765R SE. Made as a final hoo-ra for the daytona name plate, this bike was made to celebrate the fact that all moto-2 bike are now triumph powered (coming f
rom the ho
nda 600rr mill from days gone by)Its the latest and greatest handling machine from the Brits, and having a slightly larger 765cc VS the 675cc mill means it packs just that extra little punch.
The fact that its a limited edition bike just makes it that much more attractive to me.
Olhins.
TFT scrren
brembos
full carbon fiber bodywork
no passenger seat / pegs
TCS and ABS.
I need this in the worst way possible.

There is a Triumph/Ducati dealer in walking distance from my house. I am jonesing for a Triumph Bonneville in the worst way, but a new bike is not in the cards for me. They have a beautiful blue ‘95 Triumph Thunderbird in their used section with a $3k price tag on it. Now, there’s about a 1% chance of me actually buying that, but how bad of an idea is it?

Just checked the Triumph website. $17,500 USD seems quite reasonable for this, no?
Limited to 765 units. That could be tough to overcome.

its a 25 year old British bike. welcome to the thunderdome mf’er

The 765 engine is RAD. My RS is a pretty amazing track weapon. I would imagine that engine would be a riot in a Daytona. BUT that MSRP.... It would be hard for me to take the Daytona 765 over the Aprilia RSV4.

I strongly disagree that the price is reasonable. It is artificially inflated by having a “limited” production run. The “600" supersport bike market has been in the gutter for years and dealerships weren’t moving them off of the showroom floor. They will probably sell a similar amount of the 765 limited run as they were in the final years of the 675 Daytona, just at a much higher cost with a few added features.
For $1000 less will get a similar spec’d Ducati Panigale V2 (more power), or even an Aprilia RSV4 RR. That isn’t even considering the much cheaper Japanese options, though they usually have lower spec components.
EDIT: The Triumph Street Triple RS has a similar engine configuration, TFT, Brembo m onoblock calipers, Ohlins rear shock, fully adjustable suspension, TFT dash, same frame, tank, etc. and is is $5000 less. I don’t see the $5000 of added value .

Having ridden an RSV4...I wouldnt take it over the daytona. heavy. Dont get me wrong, it has the horsepower to overcome
it, but the triple platform is wild regarded as THE best handling bike made, end of story.
the ducati, too expensive to maintain.

its a bit pricey for what it is, but not outrageously so. the old 675R was about 3-5k less (pending on the market) so 5k for full carbon body work, updated brakes, TCS and a TFT screen? reasonable.

body work. That is easy $5k.
also, the motor has a different tune and some different internals. not HUGLY different. but different enough.

That is exactly what I needed to hear to stop dreaming about it.
Amazingly, it has 31k miles on it. I’m surprised it stayed running long enough to accumulate that many miles. Even if it is 25 years old .

Those are fair points, but it I don’t see the $5000 of added value over the Street Triple RS. For $15000 I could see a more reasonable proposition for a premium supersport . $17,500 is entering 1000 cc European superbike territory .
In all fairness the Panigale V2 has longer intervals between valve clearance checks than the 765. Plus both the Aprilia and Ducati have a lot more electronics than the 765. Slide control would be an interesting to have on the track.

not here....
the Japanese 1000s are in and around that price point. An r1 is 22K cad here.
the 765r Se is 19.5 cad. A v4 pani here is 25K.
not to mention the insurance jump of the 1k....

just over 1k miles a year.
not THAT much when you think about it.

Fair points. I’m not t rying to change your mind. Having worked in the OEM world for more than half a decade, I know that the “value added” for the 765 Daytona does not add to the $17,500 USD. They took the RS platform (profit making platform), used some different component suppliers (reminder the difference in cost isn’t what the RS has installed plus Ohlins cost, it’s Ohlins cost - Showa cost). Plus they used the previous generation bodywork, so the tooling is already there and paid for. The price is artifically inflated by the manufacturer. Smart move on their part if they all sell out.
It’s an awesome motorcycle, but if I am spending my hard earned money, I couldn’t justify it. $15000 seems the correct MSRP to me for the current supersport market. That was my point.

:) One of the ladies I go to for riding gear bought one. She’s short and has to do a whole song and dance to deal with the kickstand.
It’s a cool bike but the 765cc puts it in the 1000cc for insurance here (instead of the mid-weight with the 675). The insurance is dastardly here so hypothetically I’d probably go for a non-m S1000RR over it.

The irrational side of the desire makes sense, and there’s really nothing that can be done to overcome that. It’s still not the best option from a value perspective.
A properly setup R6 or ZX6 with the same amount of $$$ spent will be faster, handle better, and be more reliable. While the suspension and brakes on the 765 are top tier for OEM level, they aren’t on the same level as the Good Shit (tm) from Ohlins & Brembo.

Good point!

oh, I agree with you. its not crazy good value. but its not over priced. I think its right where it needs to be.
I just wish the body work was different and that we got a new ‘base’ daytona.

I will give you the more reliable part.
the other two...ehhh.

That’s not even taking into account that the ZX6 looks better!
